Welcome to the Daviess County Public Library's Internet Access. Information and resources available via the Internet enhance those already held in the library and often go beyond what is locally available. While users are encouraged to take advantage of Internet resources, keep in mind that the library is a public place visited by people of all ages and as such, it is important to exercise good judgment and discretion in its use. Current books, magazines and videos, regarding use of the Internet, are available at the library. To maximize availability to this resource, and to ensure fair accessibility for all, please follow these Internet Access Guidelines, which include our Internet policies, rules, and procedures.
GUIDELINES FOR ACCESSING THE INTERNET AT THE DAVIESS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
1. Users must have a valid library card, or a temporary Visitor Internet User Card.
2. Users must provide identification and sign an Internet Acceptable Use Agreement. If under 18, the user must also have a parent or guardian sign the agreement, stating that he/she is assuming responsibility for the minor's use of the Internet.
3. Internet use will be allotted in 30 minute time periods. If, after 30 minutes, no other users are waiting, you may continue use until another wishes to sign in.
4. The library will NOT provide Internet access to chat rooms.
5. You may not use your own software programs on the library computers. This will help prevent computer viruses that are common on public computers. Likewise, you may not use your own diskettes. Diskettes are available from library staff for a minimal charge.
Warning: Although the library uses virus detection software on library computers, this will not completely protect you from the chance of getting a virus. Software downloaded from the Internet may contain a virus and you need to have virus detection software on your own computer. The Daviess County Public Library is not responsible for damage to a users' disk or computer, or for any loss of data, damage, or liability that may occur from use of the library's computers.
6. Internet resources may not be used for illegal purposes.
7. Users are expected to follow accepted rules of Internet etiquette.

INTERNET ACCESS POLICY
The Internet is a global electronic network that provides dynamic resources and facilitates communication. Library staff cannot control access points that often change rapidly and unpredictably. Not all sites on the Internet provide accurate, complete or current information. You need to be a good information consumer, questioning the validity of the information you find. Just as libraries do not vouch for or endorse the viewpoints of written materials in their collections, they do not do so for electronic information. It is the responsibility of the user (or the parent/legal guardian) to determine what is appropriate. Parents are advised to supervise their children's Internet sessions.
