Jul 24, 2013 — Did you know that the Daviess County Public Library provides a multitude of databases that the public can access from inside and outside the building? If not, then you need to check out our web page at www.dcplibrary.org. On this site you can access approximately 30 different kinds of databases that allow you to do a variety of things online.
The database that I am going to focus on today is one entitled “Auto Repair Reference Center.” This database is very useful if you want to find out how to make repairs to your automobile. You can access this database by going to our web site mentioned above then you will click on the blue tab that says “Online Resources.” Once you click on Online Resources it should prompt you to enter your 14-digit library barcode from the back of your library card. Once you do this you then will be directed to a long list of databases. You will want to scroll down to the link for Auto Repair Reference Center and then click on it to open the database.
Once inside this database you can do a variety of things to help you with any automotive problems you may be having. Here is what you will do first to access this database once you are on the page: 1) Select the year of vehicle you own; 2) Select the make of the vehicle you own; 3) Select the model of the vehicle you own. Now that you have selected all 3 criteria for your vehicle then the next page that appears will provide you with a listing of the records found for that vehicle and additional information including: sub model, engine type, liters, fuel delivery, and type of fuel. You will then select one of these sub model listings from the criteria and this is when it will pull up a list of topics available for your particular vehicle.
For example, on the vehicle I chose to select it pulled up 7 topics for related matches including: repair info, bulletins, diagrams, maintenance intervals, specifications, labor times, and diagnostic info. If you are interested in making a repair to your vehicle then you would select “repair info” and it will bring up a new page that lists all the major components on that particular vehicle and then you can select which one you need in order to repair your car.
The site is very easy to use and you may even print off any information that you find if you have a printer at home. However, if you don’t own a computer or printer, you are welcome as long as you have a library card with us to come into the library and use the database in-house and print out whatever you may need for .10 cents per page.
This is just one of the many databases available to the public here at the Daviess County Public Library. If you are not familiar with what we have, please go to our website at www.dcplibrary.org and peruse our site today. You will discover a wealth of information at your fingertips through our website and learn many interesting things in the process.
Stay tuned, you never know what’s going to turn up at your local library!
