We’re starting a New Year and that generally means we are looking at changing things up to have a fresh start. There are many areas in life where we can look at improving ourselves including fitness, health, money, relationships, etc.
However, sometimes we don’t think about changing up some of the more fun aspects of our lives either. There are times where you may feel like you are stuck in a rut and want to try a new venture. Well, there is no time like the present. Starting now, you can have a whole new adventure and you don’t even have to leave the comfort of your own home. Do I have your attention?
Okay, you may be wondering what I am referring to. Well, wonder no more. I am talking about ebooks and the wonderful way in which you can download and read them most anywhere or anytime as long as you have some basic equipment. You need a digital device and a wireless connection and you are on your way to digital reading freedom.
At the Daviess County Public Library we have many wonderful databases but perhaps one of the best-loved and most used is Kentucky Libraries Unbound powered by the OverDrive Corporation. Over the last 7 years we have seen our usage of OverDrive grow over time and that’s a great thing because we want our patrons to use our services. Plus, this is a great way to get people reading without having to carry mountains of books around with them.
Over the years we not only have seen the numbers of people grow that use these types of services but also we have watched as the companies that provide the services change and grow as well. OverDrive is consistently upgrading and changing the way that they do things in order to provide a better customer experience.
Recently, OverDrive has updated and changed some things on the Kentucky Libraries Unbound site in hopes that this will provide a better downloadable experience. After having been on the new site, I can tell you that they have made some parts much easier than before. However, for those new to the system there will always be a learning curve but hopefully the curve will continue to get easier as OverDrive continues to make improvements.
If you have never been on the KLU site through our webpage: www.dcplibrary.org, then you need to visit and give it a try. Here are some of the things I have noticed since they implemented the changes in January.
In any event, these are just a few of the changes recently made to the KLU/OverDrive site. As I mentioned earlier, this is a very popular site for downloading ebooks and not just in our local area. According to this article I found, it seems as though patrons in libraries around the nation are discovering the great reading possibilities. Here is a link to that article: http://blogs.overdrive.com/general/2017/01/09/million-checkout-club/.
So, hope you have a great New Year and enjoy a new reading experience if you haven’t tried OverDrive and KLU before.
