    Beyond the Lines

    By: Christy V. Temple

Well, it’s the start of the New Year and already I bet a lot of us are feeling the blahs. Christmas is over and the festivities are done and now it’s back to the same old hum-drum of life. It’s cold outside and it gets dark early. Whew, it’s enough to make anyone depressed.

However, never fear. The Daviess County Public Library has come to the rescue again. This time we are starting a new program that we hope to keep going for a long time. What is this new program, you ask?

Our new program is entitled: Beyond the Lines: A Coloring Club. The kick-off party for this will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 14th, 2016. This program will take place the 2nd Thursday of each month from here on out. On this first kick-off night we will have some extra goodies. Panera Bread will be providing soup and bread. Wild Mountain Thyme will be providing live music throughout the night. Also, the library will be providing coloring pages for adults and children. We do ask that the public bring their own coloring pencils, crayons, etc. as the library won’t be providing those items.

We hope that this program will give people a creative outlet to express themselves through the simple art of coloring, whether it be detailed designs or easier ones. I know I have personally been coloring on my own long before it became the latest craze in the last year or so. I know that I am an adult but I have found it to be very relaxing and when I am doing it all of my other troubles in life seem to fade away.

I will tell you that there are lots of places where you can buy these types of books now too. Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Books A Million, and plenty of other stores provide these beautifully designed books where there is no limit to the kinds of creations you can use. There is even an app online now that is called “Colorfy” that gives the user the ability to use their finger or a stylus to color in a design on their iPhone, iPad, or any other device. This app is free.

So, if you’re feeling stressed-out already and the winter weather is starting to get to you, then please come by and join us this Thursday night for a new adventure at the Daviess County Public Library. Just don’t forget to bring your colored pencils!
